Claire Palastanga ceramic

After graduating from Kent Institute of Art and Design in 2002, with a First Class Honours Degree in Ceramics, I set up my own studio in Tunbridge Wells.

My work is selling not only in galleries in the UK but also in the United States, where my work has featured in Elle Décor and The Oprah Magazine.

The inspiration for my ceramic art comes from the amazingly vast range of colours, surfaces and forms found in botanical life forms.

Ceramic Art Studio

I am constantly amazed by the vibrant and often-contrasting colours combined with sculptural forms found particularly in exotic plant forms.

Consequently the sculptures I create are brightly coloured, highly textured and generally abstract.

I aim to highlight the variety of colours and surfaces that can be found in our surrounding plant world.

I hope to incorporate some of the multitude of vivid and contrasting colours into interpretive botanical forms.

My most recent ceramic sculptures are inspired by the horse chestnuts and conker forms found in the autumn. I have always been fascinated by the mass of vicious spikes that protrude from the outside combined with a rich, luscious velvety interior.

Also, I have found myself somewhat obsessed by the way in which the horse chestnut sits on surfaces. Due to the number of spikes, it hovers above the surface almost dancing in the air; and when knocked or touched it just tumbles and repositions itself. I hope some of these qualities are evident in my work.
