Commission from Crossways Community

Brides MagazineA recently completed commission as a retirement present for the CEO of Crossways Community, a Christian Care Home for people with mental health difficulties.

Brides MagazineCrossways Community was founded in 1967 and now has three houses, two in Culverden Park Road, and the third in Culverden Park, in Tunbridge Wells. Regulated by the Care Quality Commission, the Community is rated as 'Excellent'.

The glazed ceramic pieces represent the Alpha and Omega — the juxtaposition of the two letters from the Classical Greek alphabet that holds great significance in Christian symbolism.

Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls

Appointed as Artist in Residence in 2006, I am proud to work alongside students and teachers at Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls. I assist students with their work and hold a lunchtime club for year-seven students.

On Friday afternoons, I run Sculpture TripleX, an extension of learning for up to 15 students.

Together with students from Tonbridge Grammar School, I am working on tessellating tiles for on an Outreach Project. The results will be displayed at Lullingstone Roman Villa in March.

Tamryn Kirby wrote a piece entitled ‘10 Best Ceramicists’:

The sea is the inspiration for Claire Palastanga's work. Some pieces are 3D structures and others are framed so there will be something to fit any space. Each work is sculpted and finished with a crystalline glaze to add rich, deep colour. Absolutely everything is handmade by Claire at the Studio in Tunbridge Wells.
